Be Happy

After 11 years of being a parent to Ainsley I have had lots of time to observe her and wonder at the amazing person that she is. How is it that someone can go through so much, have so many trials to suffer through and yet be soooo HAPPY?!  This isn't uncommon for children with medical issues and/or special needs. I believe it really comes down to their ability to live in the present moment.  It is a gift that they have been given, the happiness that we all seek.

The title of Ainsley's blog is "Happy to Be Me" , and she truly is. She doesn't try to be someone else, she doesn't focus on what she can't do. She is simply happy to be as she is. We can learn from her. can learn from her. We can all be happy to be ourselves and we can all be happy no matter our circumstances. Some of us, like myself, find this more of a challenge than others.

In two thousand twelve I embarked on a project to increase my happiness. It wasn't about trying to live perfectly, which this project could easily turn into for someone with perfectionistic tendencies, but was about analyzing my life and the things that I could do to make myself happier, knowing that some things cannot be changed. I found the perfect planner to record my project goals and my daily observations. I have kept some form of a planner my whole life. Some have been more helpful than others. Currently I am using the Dragontree Dreambook and Planner and love it.

A second part of my happiness project was to focus on the good things that happen each day, those things that made me happy or for which I was grateful, that I recorded every day with a photo project. I posted those photos to this blog weekly.  This page provides links to those posts for easier access. As a parent of a child who is medically complex with a lot of needs above those of ordinary children I have to work hard to be happy. Thankfully I have Ainsley and she often reminds me with her extraordinary smile that it doesn't have to take much.

BE HAPPY.
