Never Thought I'd See the Day

We had a LOT of weeds and they were about to go to seed. We either had to pull them, or pull a hundred times as many when they "popped" this week and self seeded. I know this because every other year we have neglected to get to it on time and paid the price. We decided to make it a teaching opportunity and have the kids help. Adrian was a rockstar and filled 5 grocery bags of weeds, pine cones and sticks. Ainsley said she wanted to help but it was wet so she played on the outdoor rug under the pergola while we worked.  We got it done despite some drizzle, took a dip in the hot tub and afterward took the kids to Barnes and Noble.

My avid readers (and mischievous wanderer). Evie is a compulsive reader and when she picks up a book she isn't likely to put it down. The book she bought with her own $ at 5 o'clock she'd finished by 11pm. So much for our plan of getting her a book to keep her off electronics. That worked.....for a few hours. Adrian's was finished by the next morning. Ugh.

I was looking for ideas for some coffee table books for the family room like this photography book with images like a cross between Dutch still lifes and botanicals. Amazing! This is how I plan to spend the Amazon gift cards that people sent me for my birthday. Thank you!!! Today I'm doing laundry and packing because we are leaving on a road trip to Seaside Oregon tomorrow morning. Just for a few days. My sister will be watching Penny and the house.

We took the kids to Red Robin afterward for dinner. It's spring break so we had to have some fun.  Adrian complained about the invisible ink pens he'd bought and how you can see the writing even without the lights. (You can when you look closely if you are picky like us because they are ball point. Every Sherlock fan knows to look for the indents on the paper.) But the lights are fun to play with.

For the first time Ainsley was able to order off the menu.
She knew exactly what she wanted. No doubts at all. Sure is what she was.
A hamburger and strawberry smoothie.

I never thought I'd see the day when we would all be able to eat together at a restaurant and we wouldn't have to tube feed afterward. I'm amazed by this girl! And SO proud!

I couldn't take my eyes off her as she enjoyed her burger. It was AWESOME!

  1. This makes me so happy!!!! I shared the news and photos with my kids tonight and the four other kids all oohed and ahhed over Ainsley eating the hamburger and said, "Good for her!" Keyan yelled "Lucky!" We are all celebrating with her here in Michigan! What an amazing girl!
